We found this awesome activity online. While it says that it is an activity for preschoolers, people of all ages would enjoy! The link gives two options – play dough or plaster of Paris. If you want to try this at home with your family and friends, plaster of Paris would probably make for a longer lasting fossil/imprint. However, play dough will be more simple to bring into the school when you try with your mentee.

Takes this activity as a learning opportunity:

  • Look up the job of a Paleontologist – What do they do? What kind of schooling is required? Where are places that they work? What does a typical day look like?
  • Locate where fossils have been found in your area – When were the fossils found? What kind of animals? How long had the fossils been there?
